What happens when a narcissist bites off more than he can chew by kick-starting his own, home-brewed version of “The Bachelor?” That’s the question our web-series, Kickstart My Heart, has the middling audacity to ask.

For the past few years, Telus Optik has given out 10K grants to help independent filmmakers in Alberta and British Columbia make their dream projects a reality Short films, music videos and web series have all been funded, and each stream has yielded wildly creative projects across the board. Audience voting determines the winners, leading to a massive #Storyhive popularity contest in the week leading up the winners announcement.

And that is why we are here today.

We’ve covered brilliant Storyhive projects here before (Wolfhands, Psyborgs, and others), but now we have a pitch in the running that needs your support. Kickstart My Heart is a reality show spoof designed to take one of the worst people alive and put them through the biggest romantic nightmare of their life.

Guy Heart has just ended the latest in a long line of bad relationships. No matter how hard he tries, Guy never seems to pick the right person. So Guy does what any rational man would do: Kickstarts his own version of “The Bachelor” where he lets the internet decide once and for all who he should be with.

With the guidance of Lynn, the best host $500 could buy, Guy meets 8 contestants willing to put their dignity on the line for a chance at love. Love, infamy, and a shot at the $25,000 honeymoon package Guy has included (out of pocket) as incentive.

Unfortunately for Guy, allowing the internet to choose his contestants means a few surprises. For example, Guy didn’t anticipate that maybe not all of the nominees would sane, or female, or not his ex-girlfriends new fiancé.

Need more convincing? Here’s a playlist of screen tests from potential contestants to whet your appetite a little.

So if you like what you see and want to support this project, there’s 3 things you can do:
