Neneh Cherry – a post punk princess with a newish release (2014) but I just found it, so new to me! – “Blank Project” — she was a member of ‘The Slits’, & ‘Rip,Rig and Panic’, ‘The Cherries’, ‘New Age Steppers’ and ‘Float Up CP’ but that was a long time ago, An early DeeJay, rap was her genre while broadcasting on the Dread Broadcasting Corporation in London.

This is her first release in many years. The new work is atmospheric, with melodies laid over hauntingly simple percussion lines, it reminds me a bit of ‘Everything But The Girl’, but I am only searching for reference points. The work stands on its own, original and engaging. Hypnotic? A little bit but reaching out to me, pulling me into the rhythms, making me work a little to engage but once there, satisfying, delightful, Buy it!

Ms. Cherry began a solo career with her 1989 debut album Raw Like Sushi, premiering the single, Buffalo Stance, an international hit.

“Buffalo Stance” eventually peaked at number 3 in the UK and the US Billboard charts, and number 1 on the US Dance chart.

Her recording of “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” written by Cole Porter appeared on the Red Hot + Blue AIDS fundraising album
