She was a newcomer to the town who had just moved  there from Tokyo to be closer to her family.

Through his investigation, Kaga discovers that past events and grudges may have played a role in this seemingly simple murder case. The novel explores themes of family, community, and the complexities of human relationships.

Overall, “Newcomer” is a compelling and well-plotted mystery that will keep readers guessing until the very end.
