We don’t know anything much about Martha Rich, but she says something we really like,
“I am giving myself permission to make useless art, and by useless I mean driven by impracticality, that is informed by moments quietly noticed and not by what is shouted. What is noticed now has been built upon what was noticed before, creating a chain reaction that forms a diagram or conversation about something bigger, insignificant moments that accumulate and become something significant.” (Quote from her Artist Statement at Cargo Collective
The work reminds us of the Bahamian artist Amos Ferguson, a similar sensibility, the use of simple material as a canvas, and the wry look at the world.
