THE ASTON MARTIN WORKS SALE
Newport Pagnell, Aston Martin Works Service

Bonhams returned to Newport Pagnell this past weekend (21 May) for the annual Aston Martin Works Sale, where superb prices were achieved for classics from the 1960s.

Highlight of the sale was the highly sought-after 1963 Aston Martin DB4 ‘Series 5’ Vantage Convertible. Just 70 DB4 convertibles were made, with each stylish model combining Aston Martin’s traditional virtues of style and performance with the joys of open-air motoring. Leading the auction, this superb royal blue model sold to a bidder in the room for £1,009,500.

The DB5, James Bond’s car of choice, proved popular at the day’s sale, as both the 1965 DB5 Vantage Sports Saloon and the 1964 DB5 Convertible each sold for £807,900.

Tim Schofield, Bonhams UK Head of Motoring, said: “We’ve achieved some excellent figures at the day’s sale, with many models fetching far above estimate.

“We continue to see buyers vying to take home these magnificent classic Aston Martins, with models of the David Brown ‘DB’ era enduringly popular. We now look forward to the next sale in our UK summer calendar, with the Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale, taking place on 24 June.”

Further auction highlights include a rare 1955 Lagonda 3-Liter Drophead Coupé project that was used by the reigning Formula 1 World Champion, Juan Manuel Fangio, from 1955-1956. The Lagonda, in need of a comprehensive restoration, sold for more than double estimate at £89,420.

Elsewhere, modern classic, the 2000 Aston Martin Vantage V600 Coupé, sold for £449,500, the 1968 Aston Martin DB6 Volante, sold for £617,500, and the ex-Works demonstrator 1953 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mark I Drophead Coupé sold for £326,300.
